Gasification
The IQ Gasification process is a safe and controlled two-step process using high temperatures to produce gas from waste in an oxygen starved environment. These gases are then oxidised to produce heat. This process results in a cool, clean flue gas with negligible emissions and an efficient extraction of useful resources from the waste. The IQ Gasifier converts dried organic content from the dryer into valuable resources, including heat to self-sustain the IQ Indirect Dryer or for use in industrial or community heating needs. The IQ Gasifier also produces other safe and clean resources, such as biochar, fertiliser, mineral ash and clean water, which all have a use in agricultural or industrial purposes.
The IQ Energy Gasification System can work with the IQ Indirect Dryer or it can be paired with other dryer units currently on the market.

IQ Energy Gasification Advantages
Built-in Extended Retention Chamber to Target PFAS
When emerging contaminants, like PFAS, are present within a feedstock, then an extended retention chamber can be integrated into the gasification unit to achieve 980 degrees Celsius for a duration of 2 seconds in the gas phase. This ensures PFAS has been eliminated from the char product, but also eliminated within the gas phase. Sophisticated environmental emissions controls are also built into the unit to ensure any other contaminants can be eliminated. The commercial gasification unit moving onto a site in Alberta has this extended retention chamber built in.
IQ Energy Gasification Unit Sizes
Input: ~300 kg/hr
(~2,300 tonnes/annum)
G300
Input: ~500 kg/hr
(~3,840 tonnes/annum)
G500
Input: ~1000 kg/hr
(~7,700 tonnes/annum)
G1000
Generally the Gasifier Input is 80-85% dry solids (15-20% moisture content), however a higher or lower moisture content can be worked with. Please feel free to reach out and we can model out what a project looks like for you. IQ Energy’s Gasifier Units can also come in additional sizes that are not listed here.
Scaling a Gasification Project
The above is an example of how a project can scale with IQ Energy gasification and dryer units. The above is able to process ~110,000+ tonnes of Dewatered Sludge
(however, the above was for a potential client who was interested in ~70,000 Tonnes/Annum + redundancy)
Unit Examples
Commercial Gasification
Manufactured and cold commissioned completed in mid 2024 and now moving to a site in Alberta, Canada.
This will be a commercial project with a local paper mill providing a consistent supply of wet pulp sludge which IQ Energy will transform into biochar.
IQ Energy will manage and operate the plant to facilitate the regular demonstration of various feedstocks, including those from potential customers. The feedstocks to be showcased will encompass biosolids, anaerobic digestion (AD) digestate, animal waste, and an opportunity to convert peat moss to activated carbon. Additionally, we will extend invitations to interested parties for both virtual and in-person site visits.

Demonstration Gasification
Gasification Unit (G300) Piloted on Various Biomass Wastes Alberta, Canada
This unit was successfully piloted in Canada in 2019 as an advanced demonstration unit. Biomass feedstocks were run through the unit and a biochar product was produced.
This unit was sold to a third party in 2020.
